Dog drowns after falling through the ice at Strathclyde Country Park

A dog has died after falling through the ice at Strathclyde Country Park.

The tragic incident happened yesterday at the park in Motherwell yesterday around 4.25pm.

The pooch is believed to have ran out onto the ice and fell through, the Daily Record reports.

Scottish Fire and Rescue Service personnel were called to the scene but were unable to save the dog.

Onlookers expressed their shock at the incident and sent their condolences to the dog's owners.

One woman posted: "My heart goes out to the family of Ted the dog who drowned today at Strathclyde Park. Honestly the saddest thing I’ve ever seen! If you have dogs and your near water please keep them on the lead as you never know what can happen."

And another woman added: "It was so sad we were there too and had to walk away as we had my little boy and didn't want him to be scared. He's talked about it all day. Poor family."

A spokesperson for Police Scotland said: “Around 4.25pm on Thursday, 11 February, 2020, officers received a report of a dog falling through the ice in Strathclyde Country Park, Motherwell. Officers attended to assist and offer safety advice to those in the park.”
