Dog dies after fire rips through house in Bristol

A dog died in a house fire which ripped through a house in Bristol.

Crews from Temple, Bedminster, Hicks Gate and Avonmouth were called to the property at Tyler Street, St Philip's at just before 8pm last night (Sunday, May 23).

The two bedroomed detached property was well alight, with the male occupier managing to get out.

The dog however, perished, in the fire.

Crews used high pressure hose reels and jets to extinguish the blaze, which left the house badly damaged.

A turntable ladder was also used to tackle the fire and a high pressure fan deployed to clear smoke from the property.

The man was checked over by ambulance crews at the scene.

Police were also on the scene.

The cause of the fire has been confirmed as accidental.

A spokesman for Avon Fire and Rescue Service said: “The man self-rescued himself from the fire.

“Sadly the dog died in the fire."
