Dog dies after 'being thrown from car park and hitting woman below'

A dog was reportedly thrown from a shopping centre car park into an open air market where it hit a woman.

The Staffordshire Bull Terrier has died after the horrific fall in Wigan today.

The animal hit a 79-year-old woman who was walking below at the time. She was taken to hospital to be treated for minor injuries, reports the Manchester Evening Neews.

The dog was assessed by vets and sadly had to be put down.

Simon Tucker, centre manager at The Galleries, said: "I can confirm that today there was an incident in the Galleries where a large dog fell from a balcony and collided with a female member of the public who was walking below.

"The incident took place at roughly 13.30 near the open market access adjacent to the entrance to Leigh Arcade.

"The police were in attendance and investigating the matter and we are providing our full cooperation."

A GMP spokesman said: "At around 1.35pm on Monday 3 February 2020 police were called to a report of an injured dog in Wigan.

"A dog believed to be a Staffordshire bull terrier - fell from a car park at the Galleries on Market Square in Wigan. The dog was taken away by vets for assessment and was later put to sleep.

"No arrests have been made".

A Wigan Council spokesperson said: “We are aware of a serious incident at The Galleries today and are supporting staff and Greater Manchester Police with their investigations.”
