Dog chained to concrete block and thrown in canal

A dog has been thrown into a Co Tyrone canal chained to a concrete block and left for dead.

The pedigree Samoyed was rescued by a council worker who waded into the waters in Coalisland to free the pooch.

The dog, which weighs about four stones, had a heavy link chain attached at one end to its neck and the other to a concrete block and had no way to escape on its own.

A spokesperson for Mid Ulster Rehoming Centre for Dogs , said: "With just his head showing and chained to a concrete block, the brave officer waded across to save this dog's life."

The male dog was lifted out of the canal and was taken to the rescue centre by Mid Ulster Council Enforcement Officers.

The pooch has now been cleaned of the weeds and water and has been temporarily homed until it recovers.

Anyone with information about the dog is asked to call 028 8773 8861.
