Dog bites woman in face and throat in savage street attack leaving her needing surgery

A woman has been left needing surgery after being bitten in the face and throat by a dog during an 'unprovoked' and savage attack.

The poor victim was just walking down the street when a large dog on a lead jumped up and bit her..

The man walking the dog fled the scene after the attack and the woman was rushed to hospital with "severe" injuries to her face and throat.

Police later confirmed she needed surgery following the attack.

Detectives have now issued an image of a man they believe may have information that could assist with their instigation.

They believe the man pictured will be able to help them with their enquiries.

Police have released a picture of the man they wish to speak to in connection with the attack (Merseyside Police)

The attack happened on Lower House Lane in the Norris Green area of Liverpool at around 7pm on Monday July 11.

Inspector Paul Rannard said: "This was a completely unprovoked incident that has left a woman with severe injuries that later required surgery.

"Our officers are working hard to find the owner and the dog involved.

"If you recognise the man pictured then please let us know, as we believe he may hold information vital to our ongoing investigation.

"We would also appeal to anyone who was on Lower House Lane towards Lower Lane on Monday 11 July at 7pm who saw the incident or has any dashcam footage of the attack to contact us as they may have information which is vital to our investigation."

"Anyone with information on this incident is asked to contact @MerPolCC on Twitter or ‘ Merseyside Police Contact Centre’ on Facebook with reference 22000495127.
