Dog attacks increase in Ards North Down as lockdown eases

An increase in dog attacks in the Ards and North Down Borough area has led the local council to issue advice to dog walkers.

As easing in lockdown restrictions develop and the good weather ushers people outside, the council posted on social media “An important reminder to dog walkers”.

It states: “More people are out and about enjoying our beaches, parks and open spaces. Naturally those with dogs are keen to give them good exercise after facing some restrictions on their movement and activity for many weeks.

“Unfortunately we have seen an increase in reported dog attacks in the past fortnight. This is very distressing for everyone involved.

“We would ask all dog owners/walkers to take added care and responsibility to control their pets. If greater control cannot be achieved by other means we would ask that you consider keeping your dog on a lead while in busy public spaces at this time. This will also help everyone maintain social distancing requirements.”
