Nottingham Forest great Roy Keane is reportedly in talks with Celtic over taking charge as manager.
The Irishman has stuck to TV punditry since leaving his role as Reds assistant boss to Martin O’Neill back in June 2019.
But the Daily Mail claim he has spoken to the Scottish giants about succeeding Neil Lennon in the hot seat.
Keane is said to be on a shortlist which also includes RB Salzburg manager Jesse Marsch, former Sheffield United chief Chris Wilder and Scotland head coach Steve Clarke.
And the report says he has “held discussions with senior figures leading the search”.
If the 49-year-old does get the job, it would be a return to the club where he had a spell as a player during the 2005/06 season.
Former Forest midfielder Keane returned to the City Ground two years ago, linking up again with O’Neill after the pair had worked together with the Republic of Ireland national team.
He has also been a No.2 at Aston Villa, as well as being manager of Sunderland and Ipswich Town.
But when not in the game, he has enjoyed success as a TV pundit, currently working for Sky Sports.
O’Neill has backed him for the Hoops job, telling Go Radio: "Steven Gerrard with his fantastic playing career, has taken that title now. Rangers are very much on the up.
"What Celtic have to do is they have to match it.
"Roy has his own methods, it is there when he does his punditry work you can see that is the case.
"And I think strong characters at a football club would like that sort of management.
"It doesn't please everyone. But whatever style of manager you have, you are not going to please everyone in the dressing room.
"What you have to do - to counteract all of that - you have to win.
