'Doesn't it look ace in the yard?' Police show off impounded £206k McLaren supercar after driver caught speeding on M61

A bright orange supercar has ended up in the police recovery yard after its disqualified driver sped past an unmarked police car at 'well over 100mph'.

The McLaren 720S sports car was tearing down the M61 motorway near Rivington, Bolton, when its driver unwittingly ripped past an unmarked police car.

Officers pulled over the driver in a rush only to discover they were actually disqualified from driving.

Police then seized the car - which has an eye-watering starting price of £206,800 brand new and has a top speed of 211.9 miles per hour.

Far from their usual haul, Lancashire Road Police have joked that the car is now a flash addition to their recovery yard.

Lancashire Road Police tweeted: "HO30 (in an unmarked police car) was overtaken on the motorway at well over 100mph by this McLaren.

"When pulled over it was discovered the driver was disqualified, but doesn't it look ace in the recovery yard. #sweet"

Followers on Twitter were suitably impressed with one responding : "Great car for the chippy run."

Another joked: "When is the prize draw made?"
