Does Turkey trust Washington?

Does Turkey trust Washington?

Turkey's Prime Minister Binali Yildirim welcomed Vice President Joe Biden in Ankara.

It is the first visit by a US leader since the coup attempt last month.

Relations between the NATO allies are strained, largely because of Turkish government's demand for the US to extradite the man it blames for orchestrating the coup bid.

The US insists it needs firm evidence before it can arrest Fethallah Gulen, let alone extradite him.

The founder of the Gulen movement lives in self-imposed exile in the US, and denies planning to overthrow his former ally President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

Will Joe Biden succeed in mending fences with Turkey?

Presenter: Martine Dennis

Guests:

Galip Dalay - research director at the Al Sharq Forum

Ege Seckin - Turkey specialist at IHS Country Risk

Aaron Stein - senior resident fellow at the Atlantic Council's Rafik Hariri Center for the Middle East
