Does Texans QB Deshaun Watson have what it takes to win MVP?

During an episode of ESPN’s “Get Up” Thursday morning, Mike Greenberg made several bold predictions ahead of the 2019 NFL season.

Following his prediction that the New York Jets will end their nine-year postseason drought due to the play of Le’Veon Bell, Greenberg named Houston Texans’ star quarterback, Deshaun Watson, as the NFL’s MVP at the conclusion of the season.

Greenberg said the Texans’ acquisition of Laremy Tunsil will help Watson achieve the honor due to the protection he provides for the offensive line.

“Deshaun Watson is going to be the MVP of the National Football League this year,” Greenberg said. “Go look at Deshaun Watson’s numbers on plays that did not end in a sack. He was sacked 62 times last year, and now they’ve got that guy, Laremy Tunsil. The world was laughing at what the Texans gave up to get him. They’re going to laugh last and laugh best.”

In a year that ended with an NFL-high 62 sacks for the quarterback, Watson was able to prove that his rookie season was not a fluke. While leading the Texans to the AFC South title in 2018, Watson received his first Pro Bowl selection while recording 4165 passing yards and 26 touchdowns across all 16 games.

“The Texans are going to win their division,” said Greenberg. “They’re a sneaky Super Bowl pick, and Deshaun Watson is going to be the MVP of the league.”

Greenberg’s pick for Super Bowl LIV in Miami was the Kansas City Chiefs defeating the Chicago Bears.
