'Does ma f****n nut in' Twitter storm rages as Glasgow sign mixes up 'deid' and 'dead'

A popular Scots restaurant has unwittingly sparked a social media storm - after messing up a Glasgow saying in its new sign.

Huge letters in the window of The Glasvegan in St Enoch Square proudly proclaim "PURE DEID VEGAN".

It prompted one Twitter commentator to point out "Deid" means "actual deid" whereas "dead" means "very" in Glaswegian.

Accompanied by a photo of the sign, Chaka_stan posted: "This does ma f****n nut in.

"Whoever wrote this "pure deid vegan" hasny spoken a days glesga dialect in their life.

"Dead = very. Deid = actual deid (or hingin). F**k aff back tae bothwell."

His rant has been liked more than 6,000 times and drawn hundreds of comments.

Kirsten Nielsen wrote: "Pure dead brilliant is the term. You'd never say pure deid brilliant, would you?

"And therefore you'd not say pure deid vegan.... was the point I took from the post."

Others waded in and defended the owners, believed to be Lithuanian, for having a stab at the local lingo.

Rach posted: "I know someone who used to work here and I’m pretty sure the owner isn’t scottish so you can't really fault them for trying.

"Plus it’s not actually that bad? I’m fae Ayrshire and folk say stuff like “deid right” or “deid on."

And Kate added: "Lithuanian owner, who speaks multiple languages and is trying to run a small business during a pandemic, makes spelling mistake.

"If we are going to be "patter polis", I've never heard anyone say f**k AFF?"
