Does Forza Horizon 6 have Spotify support?

Forza Horizon 6 is set in Japan, and for a game with long mountain roads, Tokyo highways, and lots of Initial D energy, the lack of built-in Spotify or custom radio support feels like a missed opportunity.

You cannot connect your Spotify account inside the game, add Spotify to the radio wheel, or import playlists into Horizon’s radio stations. However, you can still listen to Spotify while playing by running it in the background on Xbox or PC, or use a mod.

Unfortunately, the answer is no. At least, not as an in-game feature. On Xbox, you can open Spotify, start a playlist, then launch Forza Horizon 6. Spotify keeps playing in the background while you drive, and from there, you can use the Xbox guide to pause, skip songs, or adjust the balance between the game and the music.

On PC, it’s even simpler. Open the Spotify desktop app, start your playlist, then launch the game. If you use Xbox Game Bar, you can also press Windows key + G and control Spotify through the widget menu.

For most players, that’s probably enough. You get your own music, the game keeps its engine sound, but it’s still not an elegant solution.

Can you add your own music to Forza Horizon 6?

Forza Horizon 6 does not have a custom radio station feature. You cannot drop MP3 files into a folder, build a local playlist, or replace the game’s licensed music through the normal audio menu. The radio stations are fixed, and if you want something else, you need to run it outside the game.

This is a bit disappointing, especially because racing games, and Forza Horizon itself, used to be more playful with custom soundtracks.

Is there a Spotify mod for Forza Horizon 6?

There is an unofficial PC mod called Spotify Radio that tries to do what players wanted in the first place. It replaces the Streamer Mode station with a Spotify Connect-powered radio station, routes the music through the in-game radio system, and can show track information on the radio HUD.

That sounds great on paper. It also comes with the usual PC mod caveats: It is not an official feature, Playground Games does not support it, it may break after updates, it may not work on every PC version, and depending on how you play, especially online, you may simply not want to mess with game files at all.

The official mod install instructions, per the creator BigJohn0, are as follows:

  • Close Forza Horizon 6.
  • Add the Forza Horizon 6 game directory as a Windows Defender exclusion (to prevent it from deleting mod files by accident).
  • Extract the release ZIP directly into your Forza Horizon 6 game directory, where forzahorizon6.exe is located.
  • Overwrite files when prompted.
  • Launch the game.
  • In FH6 audio settings:
    • Set Radio DJ to Off
    • Set Streamer Mode to On
  • Open Spotify on a device on the same local network.
  • Select FH6 Radio in Spotify’s device picker.
  • In-game, switch radio stations until Spotify Radio / Streamer Mode / R10 is selected.

It’s worth noting that the mod was taken down for a while because of the unsafe .dll file, but right now, it has been approved by the website, and there are no reports of there being any security or account issues with it.

Still, like with any unofficial modification, it’s better not to use it unless no other option works for you.
