Almost every sports game has an acceleration stat included, but rarely do we see acceleration types. EA FC 26 introduced 3 acceleration types: Explosive, Lengthy, and Controlled. Each of these types has different prerequisites and works in different ways.
But does it really matter which type of acceleration a player has? That’s what we’ll be breaking down today. Stick around to see how you can benefit the most from your player’s assigned acceleration type.
What Are The 3 Acceleration Types In FC 26?

EA FC 26 has 3 acceleration types as mentioned. Here’s what each does and what requirements you need to meet in order to have that acceleration type:
-
Explosive: Players have short bursts of speed and can accelerate quickly. They are great for covering small distances and dodging defenders due to their high pace. Players with the Explosive acceleration type will tire out much faster and shouldn’t be used for longer sprints.
- Agility: 65 or more
- (Agility – Strength): 10 or more
- Acceleration: 80 or more
- Height Cap: 182cm or shorter for males, 162cm or shorter for females
-
Lengthy: Stronger players with higher stamina to run longer distances. These players have slow acceleration, but once they start running, it is difficult to catch up to them. Compared to the Explosive type’s high acceleration, Lengthy players rely on stamina over speed. This stat is usually seen in taller players.
- Strength: 65 or more
- (Strength – Agility): 4 or more
- Acceleration: 40 or more
- Height Cap: 183cm or above for males, 164cm or above for females
- Controlled: Anyone who does not fulfil the above requirements receives this acceleration type.
The Effect Of Acceleration Types
In short, yes. The acceleration type does impact your player and is a significant factor in playstyle. The most important aspect of learning the acceleration types is to tweak your playstyle accordingly. If your player has an Explosive acceleration type, you don’t want him running too much since his acceleration will become poor due to low stamina.
The same goes for Lengthy. Players cannot expect the high acceleration that comes with Explosive to be applied for Lengthy. On the other hand, you should get used to long sprints if your players have Lengthy, since that is where they will shine.
The reason why you should know the different play styles and how to play around them is to have better control and maximise their potential. Each playstyle is useful in a unique scenario, and working to create those scenarios could heavily influence the outcome.
Is One Better Than The Other?
Knowing the type of acceleration and how to utilize it is important, but as for which type of acceleration, the division has been reduced. Before, there was a major portion of players with either Explosive or Lengthy acceleration types, giving them a clear advantage. However, the game has now become quite balanced with stricter requirements for Explosive and Lengthy acceleration types.
Still, both Explosive and Lengthy are still better overall when compared to Controlled. Since Controlled is for everyone who doesn’t fit the dynamic, players with Explosive and Lengthy can utilize faster speeds and longer sprints comparatively.
When comparing the two, Lengthy is more heavily used than Explosive. While Explosive is great for Strikers who want to shake defenders off their tail, Lengthy is much more reliable and widely used. Most players don’t mind the small run-up associated with Lengthy, but prefer the reliability of a long sprint over a short burst of speed. So, while each acceleration type has its niche in EA FC 26, Lengthy is still used more overall.
