Dodgy Dublin driver caught while six times outside lockdown limit gives excuse that leaves Gardai baffled

A Dublin driver who was caught while over six times outside his lockdown limit gave an excuse that left Gardai absolutely baffled.

Officers from DMR North, Regional Public Order Unit stopped the vehicle on Howth Head on Wednesday.

When questioned, the driver admitted he was over 30km outside the 5km restrictions and was gone fishing for the day, Dublin Live reports.

Gardai were left scratching their heads at his revelation but after searching his details, they made an even worse discovery.

Following his poor excuse, it came out that not only had the driver no tax, insurance or NCT but he was also disqualified.

A Garda spokesman added: "Driver arrested and vehicle seized. We are reminding people to please make essential journeys only during the current pandemic."
