Documentary following Leeds Rhinos legend Rob Burrow's motor neurone battle to air on BBC

The emotional motor neurone battle of Leeds Rhinos legend Rob Burrow is set to feature in a BBC documentary.

The rugby league icon, 38, was diagnosed with motor neurone disease back in December last year.

Airing on BBC 2 at 7pm on Monday, October 12, the documentary, shows Rob and his family in their brave fight.

Loved ones, friends and former teammates  - including former team mates Kevin Sinfield and Barrie McDermott - also offer moving insights into the remarkable man.

Rob was prompted to raise awareness for research into the condition, including regular appearances on BBC Breakfast, after a meeting with former Scotland rugby union legend Doddie Weir - who also has the condition.

Rob was diagnosed with the degenerative disease, for which there is no cure, barely two years after ending his stellar playing career by helping Leeds Rhinos to a record-extending eighth Super League Grand Final in autumn 2017.

As the disease takes its toll physically, Rob speaks in the documentary of his determination to live as normal a life as possible, and explains how his rugby career has prepared him for the challenge.
