The unborn baby of a young pregnant woman who suddenly died was saved from the womb after his mum suffered a brain haemorrhage.
Baby Elliot was born at 28 weeks when mum Sadie Exley, 24, was rushed to hospital with a blood clot on the brain on Saturday, December 4.
Friends and family of the popular B&M worker, from Batley, West Yorkshire, were left devastated when doctors pronounced her brain dead in hospital.
They added that nothing could be done to save the mum who was expecting her second child, but rallied to save her unborn son who wasn't due until February next year.
Robert Bale, deputy store manager for B&M in Batley, where Sadie worked, told YorkshireLive : "The information that I've had from the family - and I haven't pushed for a lot of information as they are grieving - is that she went off sick about eight to 10 weeks ago.
"She was pregnant and she had a blood clot in her lung and I think, at some point while she was off, it travelled to her brain, she had a brain haemorrhage and was rushed to hospital where she was pronounced brain dead.
"At that time she was 28 weeks pregnant. There was nothing they could do for Sadie, but thankfully they were able to deliver her baby boy, who was delivered at two pounds and he's fighting."
Sadie who was already a mum to Harper Rose, three, had been "on track" for a promotion after joining the B&M store in Batley during the first recruitment drive in February this year, just a month after the store opened.
Robert said that she was a much-loved member of the team, with her loss "absolutely devastating" many of her colleagues.
Robert said: "It's absolutely devastated a lot of people, I've actually got one of her best friends working in my cash office who I've been supporting through all this.
"I left work this morning at 8am and I had her in tears in my office, so she's just getting the emotion out of her, because she puts on a brave face.
"We're all plugging away, we're obviously very busy because it's Christmas but we're a big unit in the store so we're all supporting each other."
In Sadie's memory, Robert has launched a GoFundMe so that people who have been touched by her story could donate money towards a "nest egg" for her two young children.
Since setting it up on Tuesday, December 14, £2,000 has been raised in donations.
"I just said that I'd like to do something for the two children, they're going to grow up without a mother so at least I can raise a little bit of money for Sadie's mum and dad to put away so, when they [her children] turn 18 they've got something", Robert said.
He said: "I've seen some of the donations and I didn't expect so many people to come forward. I was overjoyed at how much it had captured people's hearts."
