Doctors remove 100lb tumour from woman barely able to breathe, speak or lie down

Doctors treating a woman who complained to be short of breath were stunned when scans revealed she had a huge 100-pound tumour.

The 45-year-old patient said she had no idea the mass in her abdomen was a tumour, assuming she had simply put on weight in recent years.

As a result of the tumour the woman - who was 4ft 9inches and 330lbs - was unable to breathe, sit or lie down, before she finally went to Hospital São José do Avaí in Brazil.

When questioned by medics it came to light the mass had been growing for five years.

A team of 114 doctors including three anaesthesiologists, two surgical residents, several nurses and a surgeon operated on the woman for two hours to remove the tumour.

General surgeon Gláucio Boechat told Brazilian news outlet UOL : “We were even scared…the abdomen was huge.

“She couldn't speak properly because of the shortness of breath, but the little she spoke to us, she explained that she noticed that [the tumour] started to grow five years ago.

“If she noticed it five years ago, she probably has more time.”

The massive tumour is believed to have developed in the woman’s uterus before expanding elsewhere in her abdomen.

The doctor added the patient was recuperating after the monster procedure, adding she was eating rice and beans.

He added anyone who experiences any changes to their body should investigate it immediately - rather than waiting for it to get drastically worse.

The doctor added: “The whole hospital mobilised to perform the procedure for this patient.

“She is well, stable, breathing without the help of devices, talking and eating.”

Earlier this year a woman who struggled to lose weight was shocked to discover a tumour with hair and teeth was growing in her ovary.

Jaimi Conwell had been trying to lose weight for years, trying a range of diets including eating low calorie and keto foods, as well as exercising.

Despite working out twice a day and eating a healthy diet, she was unable to lose any weight and even started to gain weight rapidly.

Jaimi, 28, a nurse from Texas, US, knew something wasn't right, so decided to visit her doctor in March last after experiencing some worrying symptoms.

She said: “I would bend over to tie my shoe and get nauseous, which I thought was normal for bigger people.

“I got my blood count checked to make sure everything was normal and my white blood cells came back abnormal.

“I was placed under anaesthesia, but was with my mum who I made a proxy so she could make any decisions for me.”
