Locum doctors are being offered nearly three times the pay of regular GPs in a bid to stop surgeries closing.
A Sunday Mirror probe found dozens of job ads online trying to lure temporary GPs with rates of up to £1,200 for one shift.
One ad recruiting out-of-hours docs in North Hampshire, the area of England worst hit by practice closures, promised a chance to earn £20,000 a month.
That works out at £240,000 a year, almost treble the £87,000 a salaried GP could hope to get from the NHS.
In the south of the same county an ad offered the chance to earn £128,000 a year at a surgery near Gosport.
On top of the huge cash incentives are fees for recruitment agencies.
This week it emerged a record 138 practices shut in 2018, up from 18 five years ago.
GPs say workload stress has pushed colleagues to retire early, with bosses struggling to fill the vacancies.
Prof Helen Stokes-Lampard of the Royal College of GPs said locums were “valued” but not a long-term answer to shortages.
NHS England said: “There are more than 2,500 extra fully qualified GPs working in local surgeries than in 2015.”
