Doctors clap baby who survived 70 days in intensive care in heartwarming footage

Hospital staff can be seen clapping a newborn baby who spent 70 days in their care battling coronavirus in heartwarming footage.

The video shows the touching moment the medics applauded him as he left with his parents in his pram at the Vithas Hospital in Valencia, Spain.

Petru was admitted to intensive care just nine days after having been born at the same hospital in perfect health.

His uncle had asymptomatic coronavirus and passed it onto his baby nephew unaware, it has been reported.

His parents Cristina and Jose rushed him to A&E where doctors diagnosed him with the virus.

Petru's recovery was slow at first.

A hospital spokesperson said he had difficulty breathing and feeding.

His condition was serious and his parents could only see him via video calls (Newsflash)

His heartbroken parents were only able to see him through video calls.

But little Petru came back fighting and when he eventually tested negative his parents were allowed to visit him.

His mother thanked the hospital staff for saving her son.

She said she would "never forget the solidarity and loving messages from workers".
