Doctor Who: were the Daleks a potty idea?

For years, Doctor Who fans have believed that the Daleks were inspired by the shape of an old-style pepper pot. But now it has been claimed that the idea for the Doctor's nemesis came from another kind of pot – a chimney pot. The Sun reports that BBC designer Raymond Cusick, who died last week, got the idea from the hexagonal chimney on top of the High School for Girls in Gloucester. A school spokeswoman said: "Whoever was working on Doctor Who saw it on top of the school." A burning issue solved – or will fans think it just doesn't stack up?
