Doctor Who shares release date and trailer for Jodie Whittaker's final appearance as Thirteenth Doctor

A release date and trailer has been unveiled as Jodie Whittaker makers her final appearance as the Thirteenth Doctor later this month. The upcoming feature-length episode, titled The Power of the Doctor, has been teased as the Doctor's "final battle".

The minute-long trailer, which was shared on the Doctor Who social media accounts over the weekend, shows actor Sacha Dhawan returning as The Master. It also features Mandip Gill and John Bishop in their roles as companions Yaz and Dan.

The Power of the Doctor, which is being broadcast on Sunday, October 23, will see the 13th Time Lord fight for existence against some of her deadliest enemies – The Master, the Daleks and the Cybermen. It will also be the first time the three villains will feature in a single storyline since the show returned to BBC One in 2005.

It has already been revealed that two companions from earlier eras will be reprising their roles ahead of Jodie's final action-packed adventure. Janet Fielding will return as Tegan Jovanka, the companion to the fourth and fifth Doctors, while Sophie Aldred will reprise her role as Ace – companion to the seventh Doctor.

In this final outing, the Thirteenth Doctor will need to decipher who is attacking a speeding bullet train on the edges of a distant galaxy and why seismologists are going missing from 21st century Earth. She will also be left wondering who is defacing some of history’s most famous paintings and why a Dalek is trying to make contact with her.

Jodie announced in July 2021 that her time in the popular sci-fi series would come to an end following a trio of special episodes this year. Her exit paves the way for someone else to step into the iconic role and in May, 29-year-old Sex Education star Ncuti Gatwa was revealed as the 14th Doctor and said he was feeling "a mix of deeply honoured, beyond excited and of course a little bit scared".

Screenwriter Russell T Davies will be returning as showrunner, replacing Chris Chibnall. It has also been confirmed that David Tennant, who first played the 10th Time Lord back in 2005, will return alongside Catherine Tate, who played his companion Donna Noble. Their comeback will coincide with the show’s 60th anniversary celebrations in 2023.

The Power Of The Doctor will air on Sunday, October 23 on BBC One and BBC iPlayer. A time is yet to be confirmed.
