Doctor Who series 12 trailer teases vicious alien attack for Jodie Whittaker

It's almost time to return inside the TARDIS.

Doctor Who will return for its twelfth series since its 2005 revamp on New Year's Day with the special episode Spyfall.

Jodie Whittaker will reprise her role as the Thirteenth Doctor for the new episodes alongside the cast of companions: Bradley Walsh as Graham, Tosin Cole as Ryan, and Mandip Gill as Yaz.

However, all might not be well between the TARDIS crew, as Graham questions: "Who are you Doc?"

The Doctor replies: "You don't know me."

However, Ryan reminds her "You're the one who brought us together."

The divisions will need to be healed quickly as the Doctor ominously announces "Something is coming for me."

But who and why? Could it be the return of the deadly Cybermen?

The metallic death machines look even more intimidating than ever in the new footage.

Elsewhere there's a more carefree tone as the gang arrive on a sunny vineyard and the Doctor exclaims: "It's quite French that, isn't it?"

Also shown in the new trailer is Stephen Fry who will guest star in an episode of the new run along with fellow iconic funny man Lenny Henry.

So, expect a real mix of fun and darkness as we enjoy this epic end to the Christmas TV season.

But with danger coming, will everyone make it of the new series alive?

Doctor Who series 12 begins on New Year's Day 2020.
