Doctor Who season 13 start date and what to expect from the new series

Season 13 of Doctor Who will be the final time we see Jodie Whittaker as The Doctor, it will also be the third and last series to be led by Chris Chibnall as head writer and executive producer.

With the air date for the first episode approaching fast, we have a lot to be excited about.

The new series is promised to be packed with terrifying new villains, and the return of iconic monsters such as the Sontarans and the Weeping Angels.

Doctor Who boss Chris Chibnall has revealed that the story is one that even those who haven’t watched Doctor Who before can step into.

It sounds like the series’ mysterious tagline, Flux, will capture a lot of attention.

Here’s everything you need to know about season 13 of Doctor Who.

When does Doctor Who season 13 air?

Series 13 launches this Halloween (October 31) with the aptly titled first episode, The Halloween Apocalypse at 6:25pm on BBC One.

Three Flux episodes will be followed by three specials, the first one airing on New Year’s Day 2022, followed by another in spring 2022.

Whittaker will be the 13th Doctor to be regenerated and be replaced on a final feature-length special, this is scheduled to air in autumn 2022.

What can we expect from Doctor Who season 13?

A new series means new characters. John Bishop will be playing Dan Lewis, who looks set to play a central role in the Doctor Who series going ahead.

Another big addition to the show is Game of Thrones actor Jacob Anderson, who will be playing a mysterious space-traveller Vinder in a few episodes.

Other guests include The Inbetweeners’ Blake Harrison, Cold Feet’s Robert Bathurst, Us’ Thaddea Graham and a few more.

The plot for the new series is of course kept under wraps, but we do know the synopsis for the first episode.

Set in present day Liverpool, an ancient evil is breaking free and the life of new character Dan Lewis is about to change forever.

Tune in to Doctor Who this Sunday on BBC One at 6.25pm or later on iPlayer
