Doctor Who's Jodie Whittaker laughs on set as major enemy makes shock return

Doctor Who's Jodie Whittaker was all smiles, despite one of her character's old foes being seen in behind the scenes pics.

It seems the Judoons are back and somebody needs to tell Doctor Who that these raging rhino lookalikes do not like being laughed at.

The extraterrestrial mercenary police were spotted in the grounds of Gloucester Cathedral, alongside star Jodie Whittaker as filming for series 12 of the sci-fi drama begins.

The 36-year-old actress, and first female doctor for the BBC show, took a moment to take pictures with around a hundred fans.

Jodie seemed to be enjoying the day more than the black-suited thugs.

Despite their menacing demeanour, the Judoons don’t seem to like too much sun – they had to be shaded with brollies.

Clearly not very bright.

Speaking to the BBC, showrunner Chris Chibnall revealed what to expect from the returning monsters, who debuted in the premiere of series 3 - Smith and Jones - which starred David Tennant as the Tenth Doctor and Freema Agyeman as Martha Jones.

“No! Sho! Blo! The Judoon are storming back into Doctor Who in full force, and the streets of Gloucester aren’t safe," revealed Chibnall.

"If anyone has anything to hide, confess now. The Judoon are taking no prisoners, and will stop at nothing to fulfil their mission!

"The whole team on Doctor Who are delighted and scared in equal measure to welcome them back: one of many treats we’ve got in store for viewers next series."

We also get a first look at the new episodes, with the Doctor facing the aliens.

The showrunner, who previously worked on the ITV crime drama series Broadchurch with Whittaker, also revealed a new guest star to act alongside the returning intergalactic police force.

"And we’re over the moon (with Judoon), to be welcoming the wondrous Neil Stuke as guest star. We can’t wait to show you what happens when his path crosses with the Thirteenth Doctor."
