A Doctor Who script written by Russell T Davies in 1985 is finally being adapted into an audio drama.
Davies, who served as showrunner on the TV version of the beloved sci-fi series from 2005 to 2010, announced the news during an appearance on BBC One’s The One Show last night (18 January).
“It’s a strange thing,” he said. “I reached into one of those boxes you have at home full of old papers and old bills and I found this.”
At this point, he brought out a pile of old papers.
“It is a Doctor Who script that I wrote in 1985 on an electric typewriter in a bedsit in Cardiff,” he explained.
“And I think someone is going to make it. My friend Scott Hancock’s going to make an audio version of this with a company called Big Finish, so that’ll be nice!”
Doctor Who recently returned to the BBC with a New Year’s Day special, which saw John Barrowman reprise the role of Captain Jack Harkness, and announced comedian John Bishop as the Doctor’s next assistant.
The script will not be Big Finish’s first foray into the world of Doctor Who.
The production company is also making an audio series called The Ninth Doctor Adventures, which will see Christopher Eccleston make a long-awaited return to the lead role.
Davies’ latest series, It’s a Sin, begins on Channel 4 this Friday.
