Doctor Who favourites David Tennant and Catherine Tate reunite for special episode

David Tennant and Catherine Tate, one of the most loved pairings in Doctor Who history, have reunited and are filming scenes again for the hit TV show.

The storyline, which is currently being kept secret by the BBC, is due to air in 2023 to coincide with the show’s 60th anniversary celebrations.

The Doctor (played by Tennant) and Donna Noble (Tate) parted ways when the Doctor had to wipe Donna’s memory, making her forget him, in order to save her life in an episode called Journey’s End in 2008.

According to the storyline he left her family with a warning: if ever Donna remembers, she will die.

But with the two coming face to face once more, the big question amongst fans will be just what brings the Doctor and Donna back together?

Showrunner Russell T Davies said: “They’re back! And it looks impossible - first, we announce a new Doctor, and then an old Doctor, along with the wonderful Donna, what on earth is happening? Maybe this is a missing story. Or a parallel world. Or a dream, or a trick, or a flashback.

“The only thing I can confirm is that it’s going to be spectacular, as two of our greatest stars reunite for the battle of a lifetime.”

Tennant last appeared on the show in the 50th anniversary celebration episode in 2013 called The Day Of The Doctor, whilst Tate made guest appearances until 2010. Their return together will delight millions of sci-fi fans.

Last week it was announced that actor Ncuti Gatwa will take over from Jodie Whittaker as the star of Doctor Who with Davies returning as showrunner, having left in 2009.

Gatwa becomes the 14th Time Lord on the popular science fiction show, and the first person of colour to play the lead role. It is unclear how Tennant and his return will fit in at this stage.

Scottish actor Gatwa, who was born in Rwanda, is best known for starring in Netflix ’s sitcom Sex Education.

He said: “It feels really amazing. It’s a true honour. This role is an institution and it’s so iconic.”
