Doctor Who fans go wild as Ncuti Gatwa and Peter Capaldi pose together at Scottish BAFTAs

Doctor Who viewers were over the moon when the show's newest Doctor Ncuti Gatwa shared a snap of himself alongside Peter Capaldi.

Peter, who played the popular twelfth Doctor and left in 2017 after three series, was seen beside the next Doctor at the Scottish BAFTAs last weekend.

Ncuti took to Instagram to share a series of snaps from the star-studded evening. The actor also gave a shout out to fellow Scots actor Brian Cox and popular TikTok star Paul Black, adding that his face ached from smiling.

He wrote: " @baftascotland thank you. I met Brian Cox, Peter Capaldi and one of my favourite comedians @paulblack_ all in one night…My face actually hurts from smiling so much. Bloody hell what an inspirational room! Congratulations to all the winners and nominees.

"Thank you @baftascotland for both my nominations. The support and recognition is never lost on me but also I just like an excuse to dress up so thanks for having me We’re really magic us Scots, I must say."

In response, fans loved the snap of the Doctors together. One wrote: "you meeting peter capaldi is the best thing. THE BEST DOCTORS !!"

While one said: "scottish doctors stay winning." Another wrote: "Peter is my favourite Doctor! It's so awesome to see you with him Ncuti. I really think I'm going to love your Doctor too."

While one commented: "That picture of you and Peter is sheer magic - I can’t wait for your incarnation."

Another added: "I love this pic so much!! Capaldi is my favorite. So far, anyway. Very much looking forward to your era!"

Ncuti will become the fourth Scottish actor to play the Doctor after Sylvester McCoy, David Tennant and Peter Capaldi.

When it was announced that the 29-year-old would take over from Jodie Whittaker on the hit BBC show, he released a statement saying: "“There aren’t quite the words to describe how I’m feeling.

"A mix of deeply honoured, beyond excited and of course a little bit scared. This role and show means so much to so many around the world, including myself, and each one of my incredibly talented predecessors has handled that unique responsibility and privilege with the utmost care."

He continued: "I will endeavour my upmost to do the same. Russell T Davies is almost as iconic as the Doctor himself and being able to work with him is a dream come true.

"The entire team have been so welcoming and truly give their hearts to the show. And so as much as it’s daunting, I’m aware I’m joining a really supportive family. Unlike the Doctor, I may only have one heart but I am giving it all to this show."
