The BBC has teased what’s in store for the Doctor Who on the New Year’s Day special.
In a trailer shown at the end of the series finale on Sunday night, viewers saw a return for one of the Doctor’s most feared nemeses, The Daleks.
The Thirteenth Doctor played by Jodie Whittaker will be joined by her friends Yaz played by Mandip Gill and newcomer Dan played by John Bishop when they kick-start 2022 with an “action-packed” episode.
The festive special entitled ‘Eve of the Daleks’ will feature guest stars; comedian and This Way Up star Aisling Bea, Adjani Salmon of Dreaming Whilst Black and Enterprise and Pauline McLynn, who is best known for roles in Father Ted and Shameless.
In the new sneak peek released by the BBC, Aisling Bea who plays ELF storage owner and manager Sarah and Adjani Salmon who will play Nick, a customer who regularly visits his storage unit on New Year’s Eve share their annual greeting.
“Happy nearly New Year! Here we are again.” Nick can be seen saying.
Sarah replies: “Yeah! Yeah, here we are again.”
The camera then cuts quickly to The Daleks who seem to be inside the storage unit building.
Of course it wouldn’t be an episode with The Daleks if they weren’t going around repeating their iconic phrase ‘exterminate’.
The Doctor can then be seen with a worried face saying: “Not like this” before her and her sidekicks disappear in blue light.
For Sarah and Nick, this year their night is set to turn out a little different “as they find themselves joining forces with the Doctor, Dan and Yaz in a fight against the Daleks.”
But will the gang manage to avoid extermination and can the Doctor once again save the day, as we know her regeneration is imminent. You’ll have to tune in to find out!
Showrunner Chris Chibnall said: “We all need a little romance in our lives around New Year. Less so, Daleks. But Aisling Bea and Adjani Salmon’s characters will have to deal with both in a New Year’s Eve from hell.
“Together with Jodie Whittaker’s Doctor, it’ll hopefully prove the perfect New Year’s Day tonic.”
