Doctor Who: BBC reveals release date for series 12 starring Jodie Whittaker

Jodie Whittaker in the Doctor Who on New Year's Day special

Jodie Whittaker will return to our screens for the 12th series of Doctor Who very soon, the BBC has revealed.

Fans of the show have been waiting almost a year for the 13th Doctor to return, since 2019's New Year special.

It has now been announced that Doctor Who series 12 will launch on BBC One on New Year’s Day 2020, with subsequent episodes airing on Sundays.

The new season will launch with a two-part episode titled "Spyfall", which will see Whittaker joined by her co-stars Tosin Cole, Mandip Gill and Bradley Walsh.

Guest stars for this series include Stephen Fry, Sir Lenny Henry, Robert Glenister and Goran Višnjić.

The BBC recently revealed Doctor Who among its festive TV highlights, alongside A Christmas Carol, the Gavin & Stacey Christmas Special and Dracula.
