Doctor Who: BBC 'offered the role to black actor'

Doctor Who titles - 2013
Doctor Who: the BBC offered the starring role to a black actor, said Neil Gaiman

As Doctor Who fans await the arrival of Peter Capaldi as the new Time Lord, one of the show's writers has revealed that the BBC had offered the role in the past to a black actor – who turned it down, reports the Sun. Neil Gaiman said on his blog: "Would I like a person of colour as the Doctor? Absolutely. And there are certainly actors good enough ... I know one black actor who was already offered the part of the Doctor, and who turned it down. I have no doubt there will be [a non-white Doctor]." Gaiman wouldn't say who, but Whovians aren't averse to a little speculation and conspiracy theory, as you may know, so let the chin stroking begin. Who can it have been? And can we find out without turning back time?
