Doctor tells Good Morning Britain he will quit NHS if Dominic Cummings stays

An NHS doctor has told live TV audiences that he will quit his job if Dominic Cummings does not walk away from his.

Dr Dominic Pimenta, a frontline intensive care clinician, was speaking to Ben Shephard on this morning's Good Morning Britain.

He detailed his anger at the fallout regarding Mr Cummings' trip to Durham.

Asked whether he would quit if Mr Cummings did not leave his role as a special advisor to Boris Johnson, Mr Pimenta nodded.

He clarified to Ben: "Yep. So, everyone in this country has sacrifed so much in the fight against coronavirus."

He then added: "Not just in the NHS but in the community as well.

"Many have lost family members. Many have lost loved ones. Many have lost colleagues.

"I cannot countenance a system where such a flagrant disregard of the rules would be risked for the sake of an apology.

"We have to draw the line on what we will accept, what my colleagues will accept.

"All of this effort this country has made will not go to waste.

"I cannot accept that and that is where I draw the line."

Yesterday, Mr Johnson backed Mr Cummings' actions at a daily briefing, saying he believed the advisor had reacted "legally".

The move to back the under-fire advisor has drawn scorn from all corners - including, surprisingly, the Daily Mail, which led with a front page slamming the Prime Minister on Monday.
