Doctor swims in Serpentine at sunrise as remedy for stress of job at London hospital

Junior doctor Axie Finch enjoyed a sunrise swim in the Serpentine today before heading off to work at Chelsea and Westminster hospital.

The 26-year-old, who lives in Earl’s Court, goes to the lake four times a week “for a bit of peace and calm” before starting a busy shift at the hospital.

She said: “It is a huge privilege to do the job that I do, but you never get the sense of calm and stillness in the hospital that you do here, so it is a great way to start the day.

"It is my guilty pleasure, coming here at dawn.”

Ms Finch, who is from Oxfordshire, was swimming in part of the lake next to the official Serpentine Swimming Club.

It opened briefly at the end of last month but then closed over problems with social distancing guidelines.
