'Doctor Strange In The Multiverse Of Madness' box office early estimates: Benedict Cumberbatch starrer set up for Rs 30 crore opening; could beat 'Spider-Man: No Way Home'

Benedict Cumberbatch has unleashed the 'Multiverse Of Madness' in India and the proof's in the smashing box office numbers.

'Doctor Strange In The Multiverse Of Madness' reportedly had a fantastic 55-60% opening on an average across theatres in the country. This percentage of occupancy is said to be huge, considering that the movie is a non-holiday release. The occupancy is a little short of the last Hollywood blockbuster 'Spider-Man: No Way Home' which also featured Cumberbatch in an extended cameo alongside Tom Holland.

According to reports on boxofficeindia.com, the film has higher ticket rates than 'Spider-Man', which should make up for the shortfall.

It remains to be seen if the movie can beat 'No Way Home' to rank among the highest-grossing Hollywood releases in India. The collections earned through advance bookings were also similar to the December 2021 release. Trade experts predict that the film should make a Rs 30 crore nett opening at the box office, but it can claim ultimate victory over 'Spider-Man', only if it rakes in the big bucks in its many dubbed versions.

'No Way Home' also raked in the big bucks in South India, it remains to be seen if 'Doctor Strange' can keep up, considering that the character doesn't enjoy as much popularity as the web-slinger.

Rest assured, the numbers indicate that the film has been set up for sure-shot success at the box office.

'Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness' will see the wizard trying to contain the aftermath of the multiverse-fracturing spell, which he cast in 'Spider-Man: No Way Home', causing villains from across the multiverse to invade the central Marvel Cinematic Universe timeline.

Directed by Sam Raimi, the film also stars Elizabeth Olsen, Benedict Wong, Xochitl Gomez, Michael Stuhlbarg, Chiwetel Ejiofor and Rachel McAdams.

The film releases today across India in English, Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Malayalam.
