Doctor says men have been peeing wrong all this time and cites health risks

We all head to the bathroom without giving it too much thought, but it turns out that one peeing style could be posing a health risk.

While women tend to sit down when they use the toilet, men are renowned for standing up when they urinate, so many men will be miffed to learn that apparently, this isn't doing their health any good.

In fact, a leading urologist has warned that many men have been going to the toilet incorrectly, which could be causing harm to their bladders, and creating hygiene problems for them.

Dr Gerald Collins, from the Alexandra Hospital in Cheshire, has claimed that men should pee sitting down as it's more hygienic and better for bladder health - but this isn't what many blokes are used to.

The expert made the claim following a YouGov report on male urination which surveyed over 7,000 men from 13 countries, finding that guys prefer to stand when they wee.

The research found that 25% of Australians sit down to pee every time, but 27% of men "never" sit down when they use the toilet for a wee.

And according to Dr Collins, Germany has the most hygienic men, with a whopping 40% of them "always" sitting down when they pee.

Singapore had the least men sitting down, with a whopping 95% of people opting to stand up when they wee.

Dr Collins has argued that more men should adopt the sitting down technique, rather than standing.

Speaking to the Telegraph, he claimed that it was the most "efficient" way to pee, saying that sitting ensures pelvic muscles and the spine are completely relaxed, making it easier to go.

He also shared that it's beneficial for older men to sit down to urinate, but the YouGov survey found that older men are generally more opposed to sitting down than younger men, perhaps as it's perceived as more masculine to stand.
