A doctor has been praised a hero after saving a pet dog from being strangled by a lift.
Dr Mohammed Awad sprang into action when he saw a woman struggling to stop the dog from choking to death.
The terrifying moment unfolded on Sunday when the apparent owner attended to her brown canine right after they stepped out from the lift at the Olympus Harhour Island Apartments in Florida.
CCTV at the lobby captures the scene after the lift closes on the dog's leash and drags the pooch up towards the ceiling.
The dog is choking by its collar despite the woman's effort to pull the leash out.
Luckily, Dr Awad, who can be seen dressing in his blue scrub suit, runs to her aid and quickly removes the leash.
The pair fell backwards to the ground after freeing the dog and bringing it to safety in a joint effort.
The dog appeared unharmed and ran away frantically after.
Dr Awad told KHOU : "The dog was basically like, choking, choking, choking.
"I'm basically trying to break the leash away from the dog's neck.
"You can see in the video, my first try I couldn't get it and I basically looked up and thought in one second, 'I can't do it, it's too hard but I'm going to try it one more time and give it everything I have'.
"I jumped up again and basically last minute got it
"The dog basically had one or two seconds left."
The clip was shared by Dr Awad's brother, Faris, who wrote in caption: "My brother saved a dog's life."
It's understood that the dog and the doctor were not harmed during the incident.
