Doctor reveals surprising link between ear hair and heart health

A seemingly harmless physical trait like ear hair may actually reveal more than most people think. A recent post on X by Dr. Priyam Bordoloi sparked widespread curiosity after discussing whether premature ear hair growth in younger men could be linked to underlying health risks — particularly heart-related conditions.

As per Dr. Priyam Bordoloi, a 45-year-old male patient saw noticeable ear hair while his older brother did not. While many people associate ear hair with aging, Dr Bordoloi said its appearance at a relatively younger age may sometimes point toward something deeper than genetics alone.

"When a relatively young man develops prominent ear (auricular) hair early, one organ system worth thinking about is the cardiovascular system," Dr Bordoloi wrote.

Citing studies, he said that excessive ear hair and especially the diagonal earlobe crease (Frank’s sign) with androgen sensitivity, metabolic syndrome, and possible increased cardiovascular risk.
