Doctor jumps to death from hospital terrace in Bengaluru

BENGALURU: A 45-year-old assistant professor of physiology with MS Ramaiah Medical College died by suicide after allegedly jumping from the terrace of the eight-floor building of MS Ramaiah Memorial Hospital, Mathikere, on Thursday.

According to Sadashivanagar police, Dr Ambarish Vijayaraghav, a resident of Banashankari, took the extreme step around 11.45am.

Police said Ambarish’s wife is also a doctor and the couple has two children. He did not leave behind any suicide note and his family members are not aware of what pushed him to take the extreme step.

His wife told police Ambarish was a reserved person and did not share his feelings much. “We had observed that he was depressed after the pandemic since last year. He had spoken of heavy workload as a few of his colleagues had resigned after Covid-19. But we are not sure what forced him to kill himself,” she told police.

Sadashivanagar police have taken up a case of unnatural death based on a complaint filed by Ambarish’s brother-in-law.

The body was handed over to family members after the autopsy was conducted at MS Ramaiah hospital.
