Doctor Hilary reveals when he thinks pubs should re-open and hits out at 'questionable' timing

Doctor Hilary Jones has revealed when he thinks pubs should have re-opened, hitting out at the 'questionable timing' of them welcoming customers from this weekend.

It's been well over three months since pubs, bars and restaurants shut their doors as coronavirus spread across the UK. Their closure came days before Prime Minister Boris Johnson put the country on lockdown but now, while things will be very different, they are opening their doors once again from this Saturday, July 4.

As many Brits get excited about what is being dubbed 'Super Saturday', Good Morning Britain health expert Dr Hilary says that he won't be going anywhere near a pub and thinks its 'unwise' hospitality venues are re-opening on a weekend.

Speaking on Friday's GMB, he said: "I think it’s unfortunate it’s a weekend.

"The timing is odd, the timing of many things has been questionable.

‘I think for pubs particularly again to be thrown open on a Saturday is probably not that wise. If it was a Monday, I think it would have made it easier for pubs to control the masses."

Seeing things from both side, Dr Hilary said he appreciated pubs, bars and restaurants had been hit hard by lockdown and that many had been working hard to were take necessary precautions, but added that the talk that people are desperate to get to the pub this week was 'a little wrong.’
