Doctor Hilary predicts 'very unhappy Christmas' as he begs public to take coronavirus more seriously

Doctor Hilary Jones delivered a bleak prediction on Tuesday's Lorraine when he predicted a 'very unhappy Christmas' for Brits unless things change with coronavirus.

With a rising R rate nationwide and alarming climbs in individual cities as well as sharp rise in confirmed cases of COVID-19, the pandemic doesn't show any signs of going away anytime soon and, while deaths haven't yet shot up to the horrifying figures of earlier this year, TV medic Dr Hilary warned there will be more hard times to come.

Speaking to Lorraine Kelly, he made a bleak prediction about the festive season, with Christmas Day now less than three months away.

Dr Hilary said: "Unless we start getting a handle on this, we're going to see a very unhappy Christmas, because we're going to see more hospitalisations and serious consequences, not just of people who have the acute syndrome of COVID-19, but also those people with long coronavirus symptoms as well.

"And we are seeing a rising R rate, positive cases going up - up from 0.5% to 2.7%. Several thousand people a testing positive a day - an enormous increase."

Issuing a plea to viewers, Dr Hilary added: "This is very serious now and I'm afraid we'll all have to take this more serious again."

Reacting to his stark warning, Lorraine said: "People don't want to hear this and you don't want to be the person saying it.

"It's about taking responsibility. It's only going to go away if we stick to rules."
