Doctor Hilary Jones predicts 'green list' status for Ibiza, Majorca and Malta

Doctor Hilary Jones gave Lorraine viewers reason to feel optimistic on Thursday when he predicted which countries will move onto the Government's green list for travel.

And on his reckoning, popular destinations Ibiza, Majorca and Malta will be opened up when guidance on overseas travel is reviewed l ater today.

As things stand, the likes of Australia, Iceland, Gibraltar, New Zealand and Singapore are on the green list for UK travellers but other destinations are expected to join them as more and more Brits look at jetting off for a summer holiday.

Discussing what might happen over the next 24 hours with host Lorraine Kelly, Dr Hilary said: "It is likely that they will say some of the Mediterranean islands can be placed on the green list.

"So I'm talking about Ibiza, Majorca, Malta. It might be possible to go to the Balearics for example without having to quarantine when you get there."

Seeking clarification, Lorraine asked: "You still have to take a test though?" to which Dr Hilary told her: "I'm not even sure about that for Spain or the Balearics but certainly, if you're wanting to go to Malta, they're insisting on a PCR test within 72 hours of travelling, within leaving the UK."

Other countries that could be added to the green list after the travel review include the United States, some Greek islands and some Caribbean islands.

The Government will officially announce the results of the review later today, following desperate pleas from the travel industry for the green list to be extended to encourage more people to book up to go somewhere.

Earlier this week, Health Secretary Matt Hancock said ministers were carefully considering plans for fully-vaccinated people to be exempt from quarantine if they return from a visit to a country on the amber list.

There are a whole host of countries currently on amber status including Belgium, Cyrpus, Italy and Holland.
