Doctor Hilary Jones hit with 'vile messages' from trolls after MBE news

Doctor Hilary Jones has revealed he's been targeted with trolls after being awarded a MBE by Her Majesty The Queen.

The TV medic, resident health expert on Good Morning Britain and Lorraine, was among a number of well known faces he received a MBE in the Queen's Birthday Honours, with Joe Wicks and Marcus Rashford among the other recipients for their sterling work in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic.

Dr Hilary was congratulated on his new title on Monday's GMB but revealed that, as well as being sent kind words, "lots of trolls" had also had their say.

He told hosts Piers Morgan and Susanna Reid: "‘People that disagree with my opinions over the pandemic have been quite vile with their messaging.

We all know that people remember the one message that is horrible, that’s the one you look at."

Trying to focus on the positives, Dr Hilary added: "I was thrilled, obviously, and humbled as well. Certainly the last year, I’m aware that so many more people are deserving, more deserving than me."

Plenty of people were quick to praise Dr Hilary, who has been barely been absent from GMB since the country first went into lockdown in March, giving plenty of advice on symptoms and testing among many other things.

One tweeted: "Congratulations Dr Hilary on getting your award of MBE thoroughly deserved for all your work especially on GMB for so many years bringing help and advice to everyone," and another posted: "Congrats Dr Hilary on getting an MBE and Lorraine on getting a CBE, it's truly deserved for the work you do on TV and outside of tv.

He went onto appear on Monday's Lorraine where he congratulated the show's famous host Lorraine Kelly on her CBE from The Queen.
