Dockers poach Jaymie Graham from Eagles

West Coast assistant coach Jaymie Graham has jumped ship to cross-town rivals Fremantle after being granted an early release from his contract.

Graham, an emergency for West Coast's 2006 grand final win, played 37 games for the Eagles before retiring in 2008 at the age of 25 to look after his family.

He rejoined the club as a development coach in 2014, and took over the club's forward line in 2017 before spending 2021 as the defence coach.

The 38-year-old recently interviewed for the Collingwood head coaching position, but Craig McRae ended up winning the role.

Graham was still contracted for next year but was granted an early release by West Coast so he could become Fremantle's forward-line coach.

He replaces David Hale, who joined Sam Mitchell's new-look coaching team at Hawthorn.

West Coast have overhauled their coaching team after poor on-field results this year.

Adrian Hickmott left West Coast to join Hawthorn, while Graham linked up with Fremantle despite early talk he might join Mitchell at Hawthorn.

West Coast have lured former Essendon coach Matthew Knights and former Port Adelaide assistant Jarrad Schofield to fill the vacancies.

Schofield will be head of strategy and stoppage, while Knights will be in charge of the midfield.

The Eagles won just two of their final nine games of the season to crash to ninth spot with a 10-12 record.

Despite the ageing list and question marks over the game plan, Eagles coach Adam Simpson is confident West Coast can rebound in 2022.
