One of the best things about living in Liverpool in the Nineties and Noughties was the Summer Pops festival.
The festival was set up in 1993 by Royal Liverpool Philharmonic conductor Carl Davis as a way to give the orchestra somewhere to play while the Philharmonic Hall was being refurbished between 1993 and 1995. But it was so popular it carried on, with other artists coming on board.
Music legends like Paul McCartney, Diana Ross, Paul Simon, Bob Dylan, James Brown, The Who, and Elton John graced the famous green and yellow big top, which was set up on Kings Dock on the future site of the M&S Bank Arena, while comic Peter Kay packed the tent for five nights in a record-breaking sell-out run.

The Pops temporarily moved to Trafalgar Dock and Aintree Racecourse as the Arena was built, before they made a triumphant return to Kings Dock and the Arena in 2008. But by the early 2010s the Pops had lost their fizz, and the festival bit the dust.

What we want to know is, does Liverpool need a festival like the Pops?
