‘Do you understand?’: Cop’s bizarre arrest leaves robbers looking completely baffled, people are convinced it ‘isn’t very fair’

People online can’t stop laughing at body camera footage showing a police officer completely messing up his words while trying to read the rights to two robbery suspects. The criminals looked totally confused. This strange moment happened when officers arrested 21-year-old Damaris McBeth and 21-year-old Rhys Antwi at an electronics store in Northampton, Northamptonshire.

According to The Sun, if you watch the video, you’ll see the officer walk into the shop as the two men were trying to sell a stolen iPhone. The whole situation is really tense, but what happens next made it go viral instantly.

McBeth and Antwi were being arrested after they stole an iPhone from a 17-year-old. The thugs followed the victim into a building on nearby Guildhall Road. They then threatened the teenager with a knife before taking his phone. It’s really terrible that they targeted someone so young, especially using a weapon.

The officer’s jumbled words made absolutely no sense

The body camera footage shows the arresting officer walk into the building and calmly ask the shopkeeper if anyone had come in trying to sell him a phone. After asking again and asking where the suspects were, the worker behind the counter nods and points toward McBeth and Antwi.

Once he gets the answer, the officer tells one of the suspects to “stand over there.” However, as the man starts to turn around, the officer suddenly yells his name, shouting “do not move.” The officer keeps raising his voice, demanding, “Move away now, move back that way. Move back.”

This is where the footage gets really strange. As the officer starts reading the rights, his words become completely impossible to understand. It sounds like a mixed-up mess of sounds. He then points at Antwi, the other criminal, loudly shouting at him to “come out now” from behind the shop corner.

I’ve watched this several times, and I still can’t figure out what he was trying to say. This confusing speech is clearly visible on the robber’s face, who looks totally puzzled by the officer’s instructions. While this officer’s communication skills needed work, at least he wasn’t dealing with something as serious as a dangerous escapee on the run.

The public reaction online has been funny, with many people joking about the suspects’ confusion. One person joked about the moment, saying: “Okay, you’re under arrest on suspicion of robby don’t say anything yhowsettswahurhennerskewehersegsekkehbe DO YOU UNDERSTAND?!” Another person joked that reading the rights like that and then asking if the suspect understands “isn’t very fair is it?”

The outcome for McBeth and Antwi was serious, no matter how funny the arrest footage was. After being caught at the store in April 2023, the police found them with a huge amount of drugs, including crack cocaine and heroin.

Both men, who used to live in Lambeth in London, were charged with one count of robbery. They were also charged with one count of possession with intent to supply Class A drugs. McBeth and Antwi admitted to the crimes at Northampton Crown Court.

When they came back for sentencing in September 2025 they faced serious time in prison. McBeth got a sentence of five years and three months, along with an extra period of four years. Antwi was sentenced in November 2025 to five years and three months in prison. Law enforcement takes these cases seriously, much like how SWAT teams handle protection assignments.
