Do you know where your Valentine's Day flowers come from?

Nothing says “I love you” like a beautiful bouquet of fresh-cut flowers. Unfortunately, there’s nothing beautiful about conventional flower farming, which poisons soil and waterways and exposes workers to toxic pesticides.

Thankfully, a growing number of flower farms around the world have adopted responsible cultivation methods that give the Earth the love it deserves. The Rainforest Alliance Certified farm in Costa Rica, showcased in the video below, employs innovative methods to minimize pesticide use, and takes measures to protect ecosystems, wildlife habitats and worker wellbeing.

When agrochemicals can’t be avoided, workers are required to wear protective gear when spraying, and then shower at the end of the day so they don’t carry home any traces to their families.

Rainforest Alliance Certified flowers protect farm workers, their families and the land. So go ahead and buy your beloved a beautiful bouquet – just make sure it’s Rainforest Alliance Certified.

Oh, and while we’re on the subject of classic Valentine’s Day gifts, you can also find delicious chocolates made with Rainforest Alliance Certified cocoa.
