Mid-February. A crisp Saturday morning. Reservoir water at just four degrees.
Jumping into that might sound like the idea of most people’s personal hell, but the We Love MCR charity is challenging mancs to take the plunge in their latest mass-fundraiser.
Having previously taken hundreds over a firewalk in St Peter’s Square, and then daring Good Samaritans to abseil down a 22-storey building, the charity has unveiled its latest fundraising drive. Next year, up to 150 people can dive into Sale Water Park for a cold water immersion dip. The only rule is they CANNOT wear a swimsuit.

Saturday, February 18, has been chosen for the dip as it’s the time of year when freshwater is at its coldest – around four degrees celsius. The challenge will be delivered by Jane McCormick of Openswim, who is accredited in cold-water immersion training by world-renowned expert Wim Hof. Full training in breathwork and controlling the body’s response to cold water will be provided by Jane at the lake-side.
“We’re asking hardy Mancunians to get their heart racing this Valentine’s!,” Head of Charity Ged Carter said. “This is a real mind-over-matter challenge for a great cause. Join me, and the courageous Lord Mayor of Manchester, for your coldest dip ever.”
Sign-ups for the event open today (November 25) and 150 places are available.The event fee is just £10, and Dippers are asked to raise a minimum of £150 in sponsorship.
