Do you have to wear a face mask at the pub?

After more than three months, pubs and restaurants will be able to reopen to customers from today.

Saturday July 4 will see the hospitality industry begin its road to recovery in England as the public can finally get a proper pub pint or restaurant quality dinner.

In the biggest easing of lockdown restrictions due to the coronavirus outbreak, many venues will be allowed to reopen, the two-metre social distancing rule has become "1m+" and there are more opportunities to meet up with loved ones.

But despite measures being lifted, rules do still apply if we want to continue to beat the spread of Covid-19.

And this includes the mandatory use of face masks in some places.

People must wear a face mask when using public transport but for now, this doesn't explicitly include the pub at the moment.

With the new "1m+" rule, it is advised that two-metres should be maintained but if this cannot be done,  one metre plus mitigations is allowed which includes a face covering, a screen or hand washing facilities.

Pubs have introduced other rules instead which includes no drinking at the bar with some only offering table service and visitors will be asked to give their name and contact details to the pub either when they make a booking, or when they arrive.
