I recently placed an online home delivery only order with Argos and was charged £8.95 for delivery. I then went to a store to add a further item to the existing order, but was charged another £8.95 for delivery. I queried this but was told, in store, I had to pay it if I wanted the item added. I later checked with customer services and was told that this was not the case. It agreed to refund the £8.95 but I wonder how many shoppers have been similarly misled and overcharged, without realising it? KS, Evesham, Worcestershire
Thanks for drawing our attention to this as shoppers scrutinise delivery charges in the current frenzy of Christmas shopping. We contacted Argos, which said its policy is perfectly clear – that any customer who has placed an order for home delivery is unable to add further items to an existing order.
You would need to either place a separate additional order, or cancel the original one and place a new order for all items required. It believes this approach to be consistent with many other retailers in the market. It is very odd that you were told something completely different by customer services and even offered a refund.
However, Argos has agreed to refund your additional delivery charges as a goodwill gesture.
