'Do not watch' warning over McDonald's Christmas advert which has left people upset

Fast food giant McDonald's has this week unveiled its 2021 Christmas advert.

The restaurant chain followed the likes of Tesco, John Lewis and Aldi which have already released their seasonal ads.

Like many major brands, McDonald's chose to tug on viewers' heart strings and have left many in tears.

In the advert, viewers watch the journey of Matilda, a young girl bonding with her imaginary friend Iggy, before growing up and leaving him behind.

That's until a moment of Christmas joy in McDonald's helps to spark her memory.

Pop star Mabel covers Cyndi Lauper’s hit ‘Time After Time’ in the ad, and is giving 10p from every download to food charity FareShare.

But many viewers have been left upset by the advert, and claim the 'emotional rollercoaster' has turned them into a mess.

"Erm excuse me McDonald's, was there any need for that emotional rollercoaster of an advert on a Saturday morning?!" wrote one person.

Another said: "In absolute floods over a McDonald’s advert. Send help."

"I have a definite lump in my throat. Do not watch the McDonald's Christmas advert made me blub," said a third viewer.

A fourth added: "Just cried at the McDonald's Xmas advert. How's your morning going?"

"Omg just cried my eyes out at the McDonald’s Christmas advert," said yet another moved individual.

"Not me fully sobbing at the McDonald's Christmas advert... no I am not okay mentally," said somebody else.

Others reckon it's the 'best Xmas advert this year'.
