'Do not travel' warning issued from London to Scotland as overhead lines damaged

Train services between London and Scotland have been disrupted after overhead lines were damaged.

Punters travelling north of the UK capital have been advised not to travel because of the chaos after the overhead line was damaged at Peterborough and Northampton.

The news comes as thousands have descended on Glasgow for the massive two week Cop26 climate change conference.

There has been warnings of disruption (LNER)

Many are expected to be travelling from London and the south of England.

LNER have urged anyone heading north of London not to travel and warned of 'possible disruption' between Newcastle and Edinburgh.

Online Network Rail Scotland retweeted a warning from London Euston station which read: "SEVERE DELAYS to

@AvantiWestCoast & @LNRailway train services between #Rugby & #Euston

"We’re responding to reports of tree branches striking overhead power lines in #Northampton."

LNER tweeted pictures of the tree branches on the line and tweeted: "#LNERUpdate Network Rail are on site and expect to be able to reopen the lines soon. Services will be very busy when they resume and will remain subject to disruption for the rest of the day. We continue to advise you do not travel."

A second tweet from the firm read: "#LNERUpdate Due to damage to the overhead electric wires at #Peterborough, we advise you DO NOT TRAVEL.

"Tickets dated for today will be accepted for travel tomorrow, 01 November, or alternatively may be refunded via point of purchase."
